Inside the Southern Hemisphere on the planet Earth lies an ancient land mass called Australia. This continent of many diverse regions contains animals like the Koala bear, the Kangaroo, the Platypus, the Emu and the Dingo. These animals live nowhere else on the surface of the planet. This isolated weather worn land evolved over eons of time - into a world of exotic uniqueness.
On the surface of the continent in a desolate region in particular, the Kimberley can be found to the far north-west of Western Australia. This 200,000 square kilometers are of sparsely inhabited wilderness is mainly hot, dry and rugged. Its character depends entirely on the amount of annual rainfall it receives.
It was during the year of 1987 that an extensive geological survey of Precambrian rocks at Mount Jameson near the Barnett river located an outcrop of authentic Kimberlite rock. The find proved to be quite exciting for the geologists involved because the discovery had imitated the world famous diamond bearing host rocks found in South Africa. This historic discovery was situated 320 kilometers north-west of the states first gold rush of 1883 at Hall’s creek. Soon after, it disclosed to humankind her hidden treasure of diamonds. Within a short course of five years after the initial find, the Kimberley Diamond Mining Company was operating a world class project. The operation was producing a little over two million carats of diamonds per annum. Two percent of which or 40,000 carats were of the highest quality gem bearing grade.
The diamonds came to light in an assortment of colours. In yellow, brown, colourless, blue, pink, orange, green and black coloured precious gemstones. However, a quite unique colour of some of the diamonds found compared to other diamonds found around the globe was the colour champagne. The scarce champagne diamonds had yet to be found anywhere else in the world in any other continent.
In marketing these precious gemstones to the famous jewellery houses around the world in London, Paris, Rome, New York and Hollywood they were known as, “Champagne Diamonds.”
Below are some imaginary scenes if you were reading my new novel.
